"The Z8 is the camera we hand to wildlife, sports and event shooters who want flagship performance without the bulk of the Z9. It has the same stacked sensor, processor and autofocus as the Z9, so tracking is superb and the buffer just keeps going at 20 fps RAW. Dropping the mechanical shutter means it’s silent and there’s no shutter to wear out — ideal for weddings and wildlife. On the video side it’s genuinely a hybrid flagship: internal 8K RAW with no external recorder. Two practical notes: as an all-electronic-shutter camera it can show banding under some flickering artificial light, and you’ll want fast CFexpress Type B cards for 8K and RAW. The Z8 has the same 45.7MP stacked sensor, EXPEED 7 processor and autofocus as the flagship Z9, in a body about 30% smaller and without the built-in vertical grip. The Z6 III is lighter still and more affordable, with a 24.5MP partially stacked sensor — great for general hybrid work, while the Z8 is the choice when you want maximum resolution and flagship speed.
For most shooting, no — the stacked sensor reads out so fast that rolling shutter is minimal, and you gain silent shooting with no shutter to wear out. The one thing to watch is banding under some flickering artificial light; the camera has a high-frequency flicker-reduction setting to help with this.
Yes — the Z8 records 8K N-RAW (12-bit) and ProRes RAW internally to a CFexpress card, with no external recorder needed. It also does internal 10-bit ProRes 422 HQ and H.265, plus 4K up to 120p for slow motion.
Yes — with an FTZ II adapter, which we rent separately. Most F-mount lenses then work with full autofocus and stabilisation. Native Z-mount lenses fit directly with no adapter.
It has one CFexpress Type B slot and one UHS-II SD slot. For 8K, N-RAW and sustained high-speed bursts, use a CFexpress Type B card; SD is fine for stills and lighter video. We can add suitable cards to your order.
