Rent the Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z in Canada — a genuinely new kind of lens: the first 24-105mm to hold a constant f/2.8 across the whole range. It combines the reach of a 24-105mm with the brightness of a 24-70mm f/2.8, making it a remarkable single-lens solution for events, weddings, documentary and hybrid photo/video. Key points:
Constant f/2.8 from 24mm to 105mm — wide, standard and short-telephoto coverage in one
11-blade aperture for smooth bokeh; Dual Nano USM autofocus, fast and near-silent
Optical IS up to 5.5 stops (up to 8 with Coordinated IS on IBIS bodies)
“Z” power-zoom compatibility (optional adapter) for smooth motorised zoom in video
Our thoughts
This is the lens I’d happily shoot a whole wedding or event on. Having a constant f/2.8 from 24mm all the way to 105mm means you get wide environmental shots, flattering portraits and a bit of reach without ever swapping glass or losing light — it genuinely replaces two lenses for a lot of people. For video shooters there’s a clever bonus: the “Z” designation means it works with Canon’s optional power-zoom adapter for smooth motorised zooms, which is great on a gimbal or tripod. The one thing to be ready for is size and weight — at around 1.3kg it’s a substantial lens, which is the price of that constant f/2.8 and the extra range. If you want one do-everything zoom and don’t mind carrying it, it’s superb.

Compatibility & what you might add
Fits any Canon RF-mount body — pair it with the camera that suits your shoot.
Shooting video? Its constant aperture and power-zoom option pair well with a gimbal.
It takes standard 82mm filters — add a polariser or ND if you need one.
The “Z” indicates power-zoom compatibility — the lens has a connection for Canon’s optional power-zoom adapter, which lets you zoom smoothly and at a controlled speed using a motor rather than by hand. It’s aimed at video and cinema work, especially on gimbals and tripods. You don’t need the adapter for normal manual zooming.
It gives you the f/2.8 brightness of a 24-70mm but with extra reach to 105mm, so it covers more ground without losing light. Versus the 24-105mm f/4 it’s a full stop brighter with nicer background blur, at the cost of more size and weight. If you want one lens that does wide, standard and short telephoto at f/2.8, this is it.
Very — the constant f/2.8 keeps exposure consistent as you zoom, the 11-blade aperture renders smooth bokeh, the IS helps handheld, and the power-zoom option enables cinematic motorised zooms. It’s an excellent hybrid photo/video standard zoom.
Around 1.3kg — noticeably heavier than a 24-105mm f/4, which is the trade-off for the constant f/2.8 and extra range. It balances well on full-frame RF bodies and is comfortable handheld, but it’s a substantial lens to carry all day.
A standard 82mm front thread, so polarisers, NDs and other filters are easy to find. We can add filters to your order.
