This is one of the most versatile pro telephotos I’ve ever put in a kit. A constant f/2.8 to 300mm is rare, and it means you can shoot indoor sports, concerts and dim arenas at a fast shutter without pushing ISO. What really sells it for me is the teleconverter flexibility — drop in the 1.4x or 2x and you have 420mm or 600mm reach with autofocus intact, so one lens covers an enormous range of jobs. It’s a serious piece of glass, though: at around 2.6kg it’s heavy, so I’d recommend a monopod for a full day on the sidelines, and the 112mm filters are large and specialised. If you need fast, long reach and image quality that matches the big primes, nothing else zooms quite like it.

It combines the brightness of an f/2.8 with real telephoto reach: you get a constant f/2.8 all the way to 300mm, where a 70-200mm stops at 200mm and the 100-500mm is much slower (f/4.5-7.1). For indoor sports, concerts and low light where you need both reach and speed, this is the one. The trade-off is size, weight and cost.

It’s about 2.6kg (5.8 lb). You can shoot handheld in bursts, but for a full day on the sidelines or a long wildlife session a monopod makes a big difference. It has a tripod collar for mounting, and the internal zoom keeps the balance consistent.
It uses large 112mm front filters. These are specialised, so if you need a polariser or ND, let us know in advance and we’ll help you sort it.
The minimum focusing distance is 1.8m (5.9'). There’s also a focus range limiter that can restrict focusing to nearer or farther ranges, which speeds up autofocus when your subject stays at a predictable distance.
