Rent the RED KOMODO-X 6K in Canada — a compact Super35 cinema camera with a true global shutter and internal REDCODE RAW. Its standout trick is reading the whole sensor at once, so there’s no rolling-shutter skew — ideal for fast action, strobes, gimbal and drone work and LED volumes. Key points:
19.9MP Super35 global-shutter CMOS sensor — no rolling shutter, no flash banding
Internal REDCODE RAW (R3D) plus Apple ProRes; 16+ stops of dynamic range with IPP2 colour
6K up to 80 fps and 4K up to 120 fps; reinforced, toolless locking Canon RF mount
Single CFexpress Type B slot; built-in Wi-Fi, USB-C, phantom-powered audio and micro V-mount plate
Our thoughts
"The KOMODO-X is the camera we reach for when motion is the challenge. The global shutter means no skew on fast pans, no jello on a gimbal or drone, and clean capture under strobes or LED walls — situations that trip up almost every other camera in this class. You get proper REDCODE RAW internally in a body small enough to fly or mount almost anywhere, and the RF mount opens up everything from RF photo glass to adapted EF and PL cine lenses. It’s a building-block camera, though, not a run-and-gun all-in-one: there’s no built-in ND and no stabilisation, and you’ll want a monitor, media, power and some rigging to make it shoot-ready. Spec it as a system and it’s superb for commercials, music videos, action and VFX."

A global shutter reads the entire sensor at the same instant, so there’s no rolling-shutter “skew” on fast movement, no wobble on a gimbal or drone, and no partial-frame banding under strobes or LED lighting. It’s a real advantage for action, music videos, VFX and shooting on LED volumes.
Yes — it records REDCODE RAW (R3D) internally to a CFexpress Type B card, plus Apple ProRes. No external recorder is needed. It has a single media slot, so plan your card capacity for the formats and frame rates you’ll use.
It has a locking Canon RF mount, so RF photo lenses fit directly. The toolless mount can also be swapped to use adapted EF lenses and PL cine lenses, which makes it very flexible for both run-and-gun and dedicated cine setups. Note the Super35 sensor applies a crop versus full-frame.
No — unlike some run-and-gun cameras, the KOMODO-X has no internal ND. You’ll control exposure with a matte box and ND filters (or screw-in filters), which we can add to your order.
It’s a compact box camera, so beyond a lens you’ll typically want a monitor or touch LCD, a CFexpress Type B card, power (it has a built-in micro V-mount plate, or use larger batteries via the PRO I/O Module), and usually a cage or handles for handheld use.
