Our thoughts
This is one of the most fun lenses we rent — the probe shape lets you fly right through tiny sets, skim across a water surface or push into food and product details for that signature 2x macro, bug’s-eye look. It’s a true specialist, so plan for it: at T8 it’s a dark lens and you’ll want plenty of light, and it’s fully manual. But for the shots it does, nothing else compares.

It’s a dark T8 lens — add continuous lighting to expose your close-up subjects well.
For precise macro moves, a solid tripod or slider helps enormously.
Its long, thin barrel lets you get the front element into places a normal lens can’t — skimming a table top, flying through a miniature set, pushing into food, drinks or product details, or capturing insects and nature up close. Combined with 2x macro and a wide-angle view, it produces that dramatic, immersive “tiny world” look used in commercials and music videos.
This is the full set with all three viewing modules: a straight direct-view module, a 35° angled module, and a 90° periscope module. That lets you choose your shooting angle — for example, the 90° periscope is ideal for skimming along a surface while keeping the camera body upright.
The front section of the probe is sealed and can be submerged a short distance, which is what makes those half-in/half-out water-line shots and splash effects possible. Keep the camera body and rear of the lens dry, and rinse and dry the probe carefully afterwards.
The probe has a built-in LED ring light at the tip (USB powered) to illuminate subjects right in front of it. Because it’s a T8 lens, you’ll still usually want additional continuous lighting on the scene for a clean, well-exposed image — we can add lights to your order.
No — it’s a fully manual cine lens with geared manual focus and iris. With macro work the depth of field is shallow, so focus is usually set precisely and the move is rehearsed. It’s best used on a tripod, slider or motion-control rig for repeatable results.
