A constant f/2 zoom means you get the light-gathering and shallow depth of field of fast primes, but you can reframe from a wide 28mm to a 70mm portrait without ever changing glass — it’s a wedding and event shooter’s secret weapon in dim venues. The image quality is superb. The trade-offs are real, though, and I’m always upfront about them: it’s big and heavy at about 1.4kg, the front takes large 95mm filters, and crucially it has no built-in stabilisation, so I’d use it on a body with in-body IS to keep handheld shots sharp.
