Rent the Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS in Canada — the go-to super-telephoto zoom for wildlife, birds, aviation and field sports. Huge 600mm reach, an internal zoom that stays put, and excellent value make it one of the most popular long lenses on E-mount. Key points:
Big 200-600mm reach (300-900mm equivalent on APS-C) for distant subjects
Internal zoom — the lens length stays fixed, helping balance and weather sealing
Fast, quiet DDSSM autofocus; Optical SteadyShot (OSS) with three modes
Works with Sony 1.4x / 2x teleconverters (up to 1200mm); rotating tripod collar; 95mm filters
Our thoughts
This is the long lens I recommend most for wildlife and birding on Sony — 600mm of reach with an internal zoom that doesn’t extend, so the balance stays consistent and it tracks beautifully. It’s big and around 2.1kg, so I’d use a monopod for long sessions, but the value and reach are hard to beat — and it takes teleconverters if you need even more.

Compatibility & what you might add
Fits any Sony E-mount body — pair it with the camera that suits your shoot.
The 200-600mm reaches much further (to 600mm), has an internal zoom that doesn’t extend, and is more affordable to rent. The 100-400mm GM is lighter, starts wider at 100mm and focuses closer (near-macro), with premium G Master build. Choose the 200-600mm for maximum reach; the 100-400mm for portability and versatility.
Yes — it’s compatible with Sony’s FE 1.4x and 2x teleconverters. The 1.4x gives roughly 280-840mm and the 2x gives 400-1200mm, with autofocus retained on capable bodies (best in good light). We can add a teleconverter to your order.
The lens doesn’t change length as you zoom, so the balance stays consistent (great on a gimbal or tripod), it doesn’t draw air in and out as you zoom (better for dust and weather sealing), and you can zoom quickly without the barrel shifting your framing.
In bursts, yes — at around 2.1kg with Optical SteadyShot (plus your body’s in-body IS) it’s manageable handheld. For long wildlife or birding sessions, a monopod makes a real difference, and the rotating tripod collar makes mounting easy.
It uses a large 95mm front filter. If you need a polariser or ND, let us know in advance and we’ll help you sort it.
