In Detail

Rent the Wildlife Photography Kit for Sony in Canada — the global-shutter Sony a9 III paired with the FE 600mm f/4 GM, Sony’s flagship super-telephoto. It’s built for birds in flight, large mammals at distance and any subject where speed and reach decide the shot. The kit includes:

Kit showing as unavailable for your dates? That usually means one item in the kit is already booked — the other may still be free. Check the a9 III and FE 600mm f/4 GM individually, book what’s available in one order, and we’ll pack it together. If one piece is out, ask us about an alternative.

Why this pairing works

  • Global shutter with no rolling-shutter distortion, so wingbeats and fast-moving subjects stay true to shape
  • Blackout-free bursts up to 120fps, with pre-capture to catch the take-off you reacted to a moment too late
  • A true 600mm at f/4 for fast shutter speeds at dawn and dusk, when wildlife is most active
  • Takes Sony’s 1.4x and 2x teleconverters for 840mm f/5.6 or 1,200mm f/8

Our thoughts

“This is the combination I’d choose for birds in flight. The a9 III’s global shutter and 120fps bursts let you pick the exact wing position you want, and the 600 f/4 is sharp wide open with beautiful background separation. For serious wildlife work on Sony, it doesn’t get much better.”

Q&A

The kit says unavailable — can I still get this gear?

Probably. A kit only shows as available when both items are free, so one booked piece is enough to block it. Check the a9 III and FE 600mm f/4 GM listings separately, book whichever is free, and get in touch if you need a substitute for the other.

Why does the global shutter matter for wildlife?

A normal sensor reads line by line, which can bend fast-moving wings, wingtips and running legs. The a9 III reads the whole sensor at once, so even the fastest movement keeps its true shape. Combined with 120fps bursts and pre-capture, you can choose the exact frame you want from a take-off or landing.

Can I hand-hold the 600mm?

For short periods, yes — at about 3kg it’s light for a 600mm f/4, and Optical SteadyShot helps a lot. For long waits at a hide or along a trail, a monopod or a tripod with a gimbal head takes the weight off and keeps you ready.

Does it work with teleconverters?

Yes. With the Sony 1.4x you get 840mm at f/5.6, and with the 2x you get 1,200mm at f/8. Autofocus still works well on the a9 III, so the 1.4x is a popular choice for small birds.

Is 24.6MP enough for wildlife?

For most wildlife work, yes. The a9 III is built for speed, and 24.6MP keeps files manageable at 120fps while giving clean, detailed images. If you plan to crop heavily into distant subjects, a teleconverter is often the better way to fill the frame.

Which memory cards does it use?

The a9 III has two slots that take CFexpress Type A or UHS-II SD. To keep up with the fastest bursts, use CFexpress Type A — add a couple to your order from our memory range.
